Four Eagles Named to NFCA NAIA All-Region Teams

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (5/24/23) – The Williams Baptist University softball team had four of its players named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NAIA All-Region Team on Friday afternoon.

Madyson Shoebottom was the lone Eagle named to the first team of the first region.  The AMC Player of the Year clubbed 10 home runs and led the league with a .432 batting average, while only striking out five times in 178 plate appearances.

Emberlin Caldwell, Natalia Watkins, and Maddi Altenthal were named to the second team.  Caldwell earned AMC Freshman of the Year honors after logging 162.2 innings with a 2.19 earned run average, while striking out 142 opposing batters.

Watkins led the team with 32 stolen bags for the Eagles, putting herself into position to score a team-high 46 runs on the year. Watkins also hit her way into the honor with a .352 average on the season, as well as the third highest SLG% out of all qualified hitters with a .475.  

Maddi Altenthal came through at the plate with the second highest average on the team with a .381 mark.  Altenthal also had the third highest OBP (.406) on the squad, and drove in 20 runs for WBU.

All of the NFCA NAIA All-Region honorees move on to consideration for the NFCA NAIA All-American teams, which will be announced by the NFCA on Thursday, June 6.
