WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (4/18/25) – The Williams Baptist University softball team swept Stephens in the final two home games of the 2025 season by the final scores of 9-1 and 4-2 on Friday afternoon.
Williams wore special purple jerseys during the doubleheader for Mental Health Awareness Day at the WBU Softball Field that were donated by Austin Gilbreath and Ash Flat Pharmacy.
Kaelyn Gooch (1-1, 3 RBI) and Breann Thresher (2-4, 2 RBI, R) led the way on offense in game one for the Lady Eagles.
Stephens scored the first run of the contest on a passed ball in the first inning. The Lady Eagles offense stayed quiet until breaking out for five runs in the fourth.
Thresher brought home Madyson Busselle after a lead-off triple to tie the game at 1-1, then Gooch gave the Eagles the lead on a three-run single. Gooch scored on an error in the next play to put Williams up 5-1.
WBU scored another run in the fifth, then secured the run-rule victory after another RBI single from Thresher in the sixth.
Emberlin Caldwell (13-7) took the win after tossing 6.0 innings with no earned runs and six strikeouts.
In game two, Bailey Crump (1-1, 2 RBI) and Natalia Watkins (2-2, 1 RBI) led the way at the plate.
Stephens took the lead with an RBI single in the first, then added another in the fourth to go up 2-0. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Bailey Crump shot a pinch-hit two-run single into center field to tie the game.
In the fifth, Kaylee Wolfe gave Williams the lead on an RBI triple, then scored on a sacrifice fly from Natalia Watkins to extend the lead to 4-2.
Morgan Garner (13-4) earned the win, allowing only two runs across seven innings to secure the doubleheader sweep.
The wins move WBU to 30-12 overall and 14-6 in AMC play. The Lady Eagles have now won 30 games in two consecutive seasons.
Next, Williams will conclude the regular season in Paragould, Ark. against Crowley's Ridge on Tuesday, Apr. 22. First pitch of game one is set for 2 p.m. from Pioneer Park.
