WBU Announces Addition of Varsity eSports Program

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – The Williams Baptist University Athletic Department announced that it will be adding eSports as its 14th intercollegiate varsity sport, beginning in the 2026-27 academic year.

Williams will compete in Super Smash Bros. and Rocket League in its inaugural season of competition.  The program will compete on the WBU campus.

"We are excited to bring eSports to Williams Baptist University," said WBU Athletic Director Mitch Mathis.  "This is a rapidly growing field that offers our students a unique opportunity to compete, build our community, and develop valuable skills."

WBU joins a growing nationwide list of colleges and universities adding varsity eSports programs.

The addition brings Williams to 14 varsity intercollegiate programs.

Recruitment for WBU's first varsity eSports team is open now with scholarships available.  For more information, email WBU Athletic Director Mitch Mathis (mmathis@williamsbu.edu).
