Student-Athlete Institutional Day Off Policy
Williams Baptist University recognizes that adequate rest and recovery is important for the health and safety of all student-athletes. Therefore, WBU will adhere to a mandatory day off policy. The week will begin on Sunday and end on Saturday. Each student-athlete will be expected to receive a minimum of one day off from required athletic activity per calendar week.
The day off policy restricts mandated student-athlete activity. This includes practice, athletic contest, team meetings, individual workouts, weight training, conditioning, fundraising, team building activities, study halls, etc.
Student-athletes are allowed to train as an individual basis on this day. Also, athletes are allowed to receive athletic training treatment and medical examinations or treatment on their day off.
Special Circumstances/Exceptions
Travel Day: A travel day related to athletics competition may be considered as a day off assuming that travel is the only athletic activity for that specific day.
Cancelled Competition: A team may use the day of a cancelled competition as a day off. This assumes that the team does not engage in any other athletic activities on that specific day.
Pre-season, Holiday, and Post-Season Meals: There will be periods of time that some of our athletic teams are on campus but classes are not in session. Coaches will be expected to provide meals for these teams during these times. Providing meals for teams on their day off will not count against this policy.
Post-Season Competition: It is not required to take a day off during post-season competition. This includes conference championships and NAIA championships.
Missed Day Off: If a day off is missed during a week for a special circumstance, the head coach is expected to make-up the day the following week. These situations should be rare.
Dual Sport Athletes: Athletes receive a day off in all sports in which they participate. Days off can be the same day for each sport.
