Eagles Split With Pioneers
PARAGOULD, Ark. - The Williams Baptist Eagles split their Tuesday series with the Crowley's Ridge Pioneers, winning game one 6-1, and dropping game two 11-6.
Game One
The Eagles jumped out to a quick lead after a two-run bomb from Trent Pobst (SR/Scott City, MO) in the top of the first. They added another run in the third when Pobst scored on Andrew Cooper (JR/Paragould, Ark.)'s sac fly. The Pioneers got a run back in the home half of the third to make it 3-1. The Eagles then added two more runs in the fourth off RBI singles from Pobst and Nick Allred (SO/Portageville, Mo.). Williams added one more insurance one in the top of the seventh off Brady Smith (SO/Cave City, Ark.)'s RBI single.
Pobst led the team with 3 RBIs and went 2-3 at the plate.
Cash Forrester (FR/Newport, Ark.) got the start on the mound and pitched 2.1 innings. He gave up one run off three hits, walked one and struck out one. Alex O'Brien (FR/Marion, Ark.) pitched 4.2 innings and got the win. He gave up three hits, walked three, and struck out three.
Game Two
The second game was not kind to the Eagles, as the Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings. The Eagles clawed their way back to tie the game with one run in the third when Dezmond Cordova (FR/Little Rock, Ark.) scored after a wild throw by the catcher, and two runs in the fourth off Smith's 2 RBI single. Then the wheels fell off in the bottom half of the inning, as the Eagles gave up six runs to the Pioneers. Again, they tried to claw back, as they scored two runs in the fifth: one on Seth Gage (FR/Jonesboro, Ark.)'s RBI double and one on Cordova's RBI single; but that would be all they could muster.
Pobst led the team going 2-2 at the plate, while Smith led with 2 RBIs.
