WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams baseball team fell to the (RV) Columbia Cougars 11-5 in the series final on Saturday afternoon. With the loss the Eagles are now 15-12 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Wyatt LeDure hit a 2 RBI double in the first inning. Columbia cut the lead in half in the second inning, but Palmer Campbell restored the two-run lead with a solo homerun in the home half of the inning and Nicholas Jones extended the lead with an RBI single in the inning. The Cougars cut it to a one-run lead in the fourth and tied it up at four in the fifth. Sam Philley hit a solo shot in the home half of the fifth to give the Eagles the lead back. Columbia would take a one-run lead in the sixth and extend the lead in both the seventh and ninth innings.
Brady Sterns got the start on the mound and pitched 3.2 innings. He gave up three runs off two hits, walked five and struck out five. Caleb Suiter pitched 2.0 innings of relief and gave up three runs off two hits, walked two and struck out one. Parker Jeffries pitched 1.1 innings of relief and gave up three runs off three hits and walked one. Alex O'Brien pitched 1.0 inning of relief and struck out two. Eric Tolar pitched 1.0 inning of relief and gave up two runs off three hits and walked one. Suiter got credited with the loss.
