Eagles Break Records in Sweep of Tigers

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams baseball team swept their doubleheader of the Champion Christian Tigers on Tuesday afternoon, taking game one 9-4 and game two 9-3. During the games, there were a few records broken by the Eagles. They set new team single-season records for doubles (96) and hits (452), while Isaac Williams set a new single-season record for hits (66) and Palmer Campbell set a new single-season record for walks (29).

Game One

Champion jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, but the Eagles responded with a run in the home half thanks to a RBI single by Sam Philley. They added two more runs in the second to tie the game after Blake Simmons and Williams hit RBI sac flys. Williams took a 2-run lead in the fourth when Dezmond Cordova and Williams hit RBI singles. The Tigers got a run back in the fifth. Philley reached on an error in the fifth that allowed a runner to score. The Eagles added more on in the sixth when Simmons hit a 2 run homerun and Nick Allred hit a RBI sac fly. 

Cash Forrester got the start on the mound and pitched 4.1 innings. He gave up four runs off six hits, walked two and struck out two. Parker Jeffries pitched 2.2 innings of relief and walked one. Forrester got credit for the win and Jeffries got credit for a save. 

Game Two

The Eagles took the lead in the first when Allred hit into a RBI groundout. They added seven runs to their lead in the second. Simmons hit a solo homerun, Allred hit a grand slam, Nick Jones hit a solo homerun, and Cordova scored after an error. Champion Christian added a run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to cut into the lead, but that was all they would get. Williams would add one more run after Garrison Keene hit a RBI double in the fifth. 

Cole Manning got the start and pitched 4.0 innings. He gave up three runs off three hits, walked two and struck out six. Keene pitched 2.0 innings of relief and gave up two hits, while striking out one. Austin Tate pitched 1.0 inning of relief and struck out two.

The Eagles finish up their regular season scheduled by hosting their final AMC series against William Woods. They are scheduled to play two games against the Owls on Thursday starting at 1 p.m. and a single game on Friday.
