Eagles Celebrate Seniors; Drop Rubber Match to Owls

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams baseball team dropped its rubber match against the Owls in a 10-5 game on a day that they celebrated their nine seniors: Wyatt LeDure, Blake Simmons, Palmer Campbell, Nick Allred, Garrison Keene, Sam Philley, Chris Hassel, Ethan Throesch, and Austin Tate. The Eagles finish up their regular season with a 24-28 record and a 6-15 conference record.

The Eagles started off the game with a bang as Isaac Williams took the first pitch he saw over the left field wall. William Woods took a 3-1 lead in the third inning, but the Eagles responded in the home half with a run after Dezmond Cordova hit a RBI single. The Owls pushed their lead out to 6-2 with three runs in the fifth. The Eagles got a run back in the sixth when Keene hit a RBI groundout. The Owls plated two runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth to push their lead to 10-3. Williams got two runs in the ninth off a RBI double from LeDure and a RBI single from Coltin Weldon

Ray Ochoa got the start on the mound and pitched 4.1 innings. He gave up six runs off eight hits and struck out three. Blaine Wood pitched 2.0 innings of relief and gave up two runs off three hits, while striking out two. Alex O'Brien pitched 1.0 inning of relief and gave up two runs off one hit, walked two and struck out one. Simmons pitched 0.1 of an inning in relief and struck out one. Campbell pitched 0.2 of an inning in relief and struck out one. Tate pitched 0.2 of an inning in relief.

The Eagles are next in action at the AMC Tournament in O'Fallon, Mo. They will play their first game on Tuesday, May 3. Time and opponent will be announced at a later date.
