Eagles Go 2-0 On First Day of AMC Tournament
O'FALLON, Mo. - The Williams baseball team went 2-0 on the first day of the AMC Tournament. They defeated Harris-Stowe 14-10 in the play-in game, and then defeated Missouri Baptist 3-2 in the late game.
Game One
The Eagles scored early and often in the first game of the day, as they defeated Harris-Stowe 14-10. Williams scored two runs in the first after Nick Allred hit a 2-run homerun. They added two more runs in the second off a solo shot from Blake Simmons and a RBI sac fly by Sam Philley. The Hornets tied the game with four runs in the third. Williams retook the lead in the fourth off a RBI double by Simmons. The Hornets plated two in the fourth to take their first lead of the game at 6-5. Wyatt LeDure tied the game in the fifth on a RBI sac fly. HSSU took the lead back in the fifth to lead 7-6. The Eagles then plated three runs in the seventh to retake the lead for good. Simmons hit a 2 RBI double and Jarron Brantley hit a RBI single. The Eagles added to their lead in the eighth when Allred hit a RBI double. They further expanded their lead in the ninth when Nicholas Jones hit a RBI single, Allred was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and LeDure hit a 2 RBI single. The Hornets tried to make things interesting in the bottom of the ninth with a three-run homerun but that was all.
Spencer Burnham got the start and pitched 2.1 innings. He gave up four runs off four hits, walked three and struck out five. Parker Jeffries pitched 6.0 innings in relief and gave up six runs off six hits and struck out five. Brady Sterns pitched 0.2 of an inning in relief and walked one. Jeffries got credit for the win.
Game Two
The second game of the day for the Eagles was a pitcher's duel that the Eagles won against Missouri Baptist 3-2. There wasn't any scoring until the sixth inning when the Eagles plated a run off an Allred RBI single. The Eagles expanded their lead in the eighth inning when Coltin Weldon scored on a wild pitch and then Isaac Williams stole home. The Spartans made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth inning when they score two runs and had the tying run on first before the Eagles were able to induce a fly ball out to left field for the final out.
Ray Ochoa pitched 8.0 innings and gave up two runs off six hits, walked one and struck out 10. Eric Tolar pitched 1.0 inning of relief and struck out one. Ochoa got credit for the win, while Tolar got the save.

The Eagles will continue their run in the AMC Tournament tomorrow when they face off against Columbia. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
