Eagles Split Friday Doubleheader Against Owls

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Williams baseball team split their Friday doubleheader with the William Woods Owls, taking game one 3-1 in eight innings and then falling in game two 4-2. The Eagles are now 14-15 overall and 2-3 in AMC play.

Game One

The first game of the day saw both teams get to a slow start offensively. The Owls broke open the scoring with a lone run in the third inning. The Eagles responded the next inning to tie the game when Dezmond Cordova scored on a throwing errorby the second baseman. It remained all notched at one after the scheduled seven innings, so on to the eighth they went. Williams broke the deadlock that inning when Nicholas Jones hit a 2-run homerun to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead, and then Parker Jeffries went back out to the mound and got the three-outs to secure the win.

Jeffries pitched all eight innings for the Eagles and he allowed one run off six hits and struck out five.

Game Two

The Eagles started out game two as they finished game one. They scored a run in the first inning when Luis Febres reached on an error by the third baseman that allowed Jones to score from third. They doubled their lead in the second inning when Jarron Brantley hit a RBI single to center field. Unfortunately for the Eagles, that is all the scoring they would do for the game. The Owls plated a run in the third off a solo homerun and then scored three runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead.

Skylar Morrison got the start on the mound and pitched 5.2 innings. He allowed four runs off three hits, walked four and struck out three. Cash Forrester pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed one hit.
