Eagles Complete Series Sweep of Trojans

An eight-run eighth inning helped fuel the Williams Baptist University baseball team to a series sweep over Hannibal-LaGrange at Shell Field Monday afternoon.

The win pushed the Eagle's record to 22-23 overall and 9-9 in American Midwest Conference play, while the Trojans fell to 5-27 overall and 4-14 in the league.

The Williams offense struggled to string together hits for much of the afternoon until a big eighth inning helped the Eagles to their second conference series sweep of the season.

Down by a run and with runners on first and second with one out in the inning, Jacob Watkins put down a sacrifice bunt that was fielded by HLG starting pitcher Jakob Rhoderick (1-4). His throw to first base sailed wide of first base and Parker Jefferies and Cameron McCoy each came around to score to give the Eagles their first lead of the afternoon at 4-3.

Nicholas Jones plated two more runs later in the inning with a single to center field, and Luis Febres drove in two of his own with a double down the right field line to push the lead to 8-3.

Jones finished the day 3-for-5 with three-RBIs.

Taylor Roeder finished out the inning for the Eagles with a two-run single to center field of his own to push the lead to 10-3.

Cash Forrester earned the win on the mound for Williams after tossing 5 ⅔ innings of relief of starting pitcher Skylar Morrison. Forrester (3-6) struck out six and did not give up a run on five hits.

The Eagles return to action Tuesday, April in a non-conference matchup against Crowley's Ridge College at Shell Field. First-pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
