WBU Loses to CBC in AMC Tournament
The Williams baseball team lost to Central Baptist College 6-5 in the elimination bracket of the American Midwest Conference Championship tournament as its season came to an end on Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles led 5-4 going into the eighth inning but the Mustangs rallied and got a solo home run from Ruben Hernandez to tie the game.
In the top of the ninth, Nick Aide provided the go-ahead RBI single for CBC and the Eagles could not plate a run in the bottom half of the frame to see their season come to an end.
Central Baptist College jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start the game with a 2-run first inning and added another in the second, but Williams responded with a 5-run bottom of the second inning to take the lead.
The Eagles (24-27) worked the count against the Mustangs' pitching staff and Jarron Brantley made it payoff when he drew a bases loaded walk to plate the first run of the winning. Jacob Watkins brought in another run when he was hit-by-a-pitch with the bases loaded and Desmond Cordova followed with a ball hit to the third baseman that was miss handled and allowed two runs to cross to give WBU a 4-3 lead.
The final run of the inning came across when Dylan Creech flew out to left field and Watkins was able to tag up from third base to give the Eagles a two-run lead.
CBC got a run back in the fourth inning to cut the deficit down to 5-4 before setting up the eighth and ninth inning rally.
