WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (4/23/25) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team was swept in a doubleheader by Mission on Wednesday afternoon by the final scores of 12-5 and 17-2 at Shell Field.
Tyrell Burnett (1-4, 2 RBI, R) and Nicholas Jones (3-4, RBI) led the way on offense for the Eagles in the first game of the series.
Cody Jones drove in the game's first run with an RBI single in the bottom of the second. Mission responded with three runs in the third and two more in the fifth to go up 5-1.
WBU came back in the bottom of the fifth when Tyrell Burnett slapped a two-run double to cut the Patriot lead to two. Lawson Aaron hit a two-out double to score Burnett to cut the lead to one, and Nicholas Jones followed up with an RBI single to tie the game at five.
Despite the Eagles' offensive resurgence, Mission went on to score seven unanswered runs across the final two innings of the ballgame to take the 12-5 win.
Jackson Vestal (4-2) took the win for Mission while Jolby Jones (2-5) took the loss for Williams.
Cody Jones (3-2, RBI, R) led the offensive charge for Williams in game two of the doubleheader.
Mission scored the first run of the game on a lead-off homer from Landon Richards in the first to go up 1-0. The Patriots scored eight in the fourth and five in the fifth to put the game out of reach for WBU.
Nicholas Jones drove in the first run of the day for Williams with a bases-loaded walk, then Cody Jones drove in Skylar Morrison on a fielder's choice for WBU's second run.
The losses drop WBU to 23-24 overall and 14-20 in AMC play. The Eagles will conclude the 2025 campaign with the final two games of the series on Thursday, Apr. 24. First pitch of game one against Mission is set for 10 a.m. from Shell Field.
