Eagles Split With Trolls in Opening Day Doubleheader

PARAGOULD, Ark. (2/6/26) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team opened its 2026 season with a doubleheader split against Trinity Christian at Bruce Hunt Field on Friday evening.

WBU picked up its first win of the season in game one of the series by the final score of 3-0.

Skylar Morrison led the Eagles at the plate going 2-for-3 with a three-run homer.  Gavin Mink, Lawson Aaron, and Luke Bullins also recorded hits.

Ben Bledsoe (1-0) drew the start for Williams, and shoved six shutout innings with two hits and a walk while striking out five.  Trinity's starter Brendan Fleming went 4.0 innings with no earned runs and six strikeouts.

Both teams were held scoreless through the first five innings until Morrison broke through with a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to give the Eagles the lead.  

Gabe Dirnberger (1) picked up the save after shutting down the Trolls in the top of the seventh to secure Williams' first win of the season.

Williams fell by the final score of 8-5 in game two of the series in the nightcap.

Connor Brinkley went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a homer to lead the Eagles at the plate.

After the Trolls scored the first run of the game on a passed ball, Connor Brinkley put the Eagles in front with a two-run bomb to left field in the bottom of the second inning.

The Trolls responded with a two-run homer of their own in the fourth to re-take the lead at 3-2.  In the seventh, TCC added on with an RBI single and a grand slam to take an 8-2 lead.

The Eagles pushed three across in the bottom of the seventh, but the rally fell short as WBU lost game two by the score of 8-5.  

Dawson Cloud (0-1) took the loss for WBU after throwing 4.0 innings and giving up two earned runs while striking out seven.  Chase Hadley (1-0) took the win for Trinity.

The split puts the Eagles at 1-1 to begin the season.  The Eagles and Trolls will face each other in the series rubber match on Saturday, Feb. 7.  First pitch is set for 11 a.m. from Bruce Hunt Field in Paragould, Ark.
