Eagles Drop Series Opener to Blue Mountain

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (2/12/26) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team dropped the opening game of its four-game set with Blue Mountain Christian on Thursday afternoon at Shell Field.

GAME ONE - Blue Mountain Christian 8, Williams 2

Lawson Aaron (2-4, 2 RBI) led the way for WBU at the plate in game one of the series.

BMCU got on the board first in the series opener with a two-run home run in the top half of the first inning.  Lawson Aaron got WBU back in it with a two-run single to right center in the bottom of the third.

Tied at 2-2, the Toppers took the lead back on an RBI single and a bases loaded hit by pitch to go up 4-2.  Blue Mountain added another in the fifth and three more in the sixth to expand the advantage to 8-2.  

Williams threatened with hits in the bottom of the sixth and bottom of the seventh, but failed to rally and dropped the opener.

Dawson Cloud (0-2) was tagged with the loss, while Benji Webb (1-0) earned the win in a complete game effort for BMCU.

GAME TWO - Williams 5, Blue Mountain 5 (SUSPENDED IN THE EIGHTH)

Game two of the series was suspended due to darkness after seven innings played.

Through the first seven innings, Connor Brinkley (2-3, 2B) and Noah Pelcha (1-1, 3B, RBI) led the way for WBU.

After an RBI single put the Toppers on the board first in the top of the first, the Eagles responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame.  Lawson Aaron brought home Gavin Mink on a groundout, then Cade Parks scored on an error to give the Eagles the 2-1 lead.

In the second, Noah Pelcha belted an RBI triple to extend the lead, then J.D Burton scored on an error to make it 4-1.

Mason Andrews brought home Skylar Morrison on a sacrifice fly to put Williams ahead 5-1 through three innings.

Blue Mountain responded with three runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 5-4, then brought home a run on an RBI single in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5.

WBU had an opportunity to win the game with the bases loaded and no one out in the bottom of the seventh, but failed to convert and sent the game to extra innings.

Gabe Dirnberger drew the start, and got through four innings with two earned runs while striking out three. Connor Brinkley struck out three with just one earned run with three punchouts in two innings of work in relief.

The game was suspended going into the top of the eighth inning due to darkness.  WBU and BMCU will pick up the second game of the four game set at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13.  Games three and four of the series will follow in a doubleheader after the conclusion of game two.
