Eagles Fall to No. 11 William Carey in Doubleheader

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (2/20/26) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader to No. 11 William Carey at Milton Wheeler Field on Friday evening.

GAME ONE - No. 11 William Carey 8, Williams 4

Will Riley (1-3, 2 RBI) led the way at the plate for the Eagles, while Cade Parks and Gavin Mink put up a multi-hit performance.

After a scoreless top of the first, William Carey got on the board first in the bottom of the first with a five-run inning, then added another in the second to take a 6-0 lead in the early going.

After Mink singled and stole second, Mason Andrews drove in the first run of the game for the Eagles with an RBI single.  After a Crusader error, Skylar Morrison brought home J.D Burton for the second run of the frame.

Will Riley brought home two runs on a single to cut the WCU lead to two and finish off a four-spot in the fourth inning for Williams.

William Carey responded with a two-run double in the bottom half of the inning to extend the advantage to 8-4.  Williams threatened in the fifth with runners on first and second, but stranded both.  WCU held WBU without a baserunner the rest of the game to secure the win.

Cooper Thomas threw two scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one walk and no hits while striking out two.

GAME TWO - No. 11 William Carey 23, Williams 2

William Carey struck first in the back half of the doubleheader with a three-run bottom of the first.

Mari Thomas led off the top of the second with a single, then came around to score on a Connor Brinkley single.  Brinkley scored on a throwing error by the catcher to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Crusaders bats got hot after that with 10 runs in the bottom of the second.  The Eagles could not keep up with WCU on offense to drop the second game of the doubleheader.

The losses drop Williams to 1-8 overall on the young season.  The Eagles and Crusaders will conclude the four-game set tomorrow with a doubleheader.  Game one is set for an 11 a.m. first pitch from Milton Wheeler Field in Hattiesburg, Miss.
