Eagles Break Single-Game Home Run Record Against PSU

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (3/10/26) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team set a new program record for home runs in a single game in the first half of a doubleheader sweep over Philander Smith on Tuesday afternoon at Lamar Porter Field.

GAME ONE - Williams 20, Philander Smith 3

The Eagles smashed seven home runs in a blowout, surpassing the previous record of five set in 2019.

After a scoreless first two innings, Will Riley smacked a homer to center to put WBU ahead 1-0.  Skylar Morrison and Mari Thomas followed up with RBI hits before Brett Cyprien sent a three-run shot to left field to cap off a 7-run inning for the Eagles in the third.

Cade Parks homered to lead off the fourth inning, and the Eagles followed with four more runs in the frame to extend the lead to 12-0.

In the top of the fifth, Lawson Aaron and Skylar Morrison went back-to-back to center field to add another pair of home runs to the tally as Williams extended its lead to 15-0.

Brock McNeill tied the program record with WBU's sixth home run with a two-run shot in the sixth inning, then Gage Shepherd broke the record with the seventh round-tripper of the game in the seventh.

The Panthers struck for a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh, but Williams cruised to the win.

The Eagles ended the game with 23 total hits, the second most in a game in program history.  WBU also tied for the fifth-most RBI in a game with 20.

GAME TWO - Williams 5, Philander Smith 3

Williams got on the board first in game two with a four-run inning in the first.  Lawson Aaron singled home the game's first run, then came around to score on a groundout.

Mari Thomas scored Skylar Morrison on an RBI double, then Thomas scored on a groundout to cap off the scoring frame.  The Eagles were held off the board until the sixth after that.

Philander Smith got one back with a solo homer in the bottom of the first, then cut the lead to 4-2 after a run-scoring double in the bottom of the third.

Morrison broke the WBU scoring drought when he led off the sixth with a solo home run to extend the Eagles' lead back out to 5-2, but PSU responded with a homer of its own to come back within two.

The Eagles threatened in the top of the seventh, but stranded the bases loaded to keep the score at 5-3.  Connor Brinkley protected the two-run lead by striking out the side in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.

Williams extends its longest winning streak in program history to 11 games as the Eagles move to 12-10 overall.  Next, WBU will travel to Conway, Ark. to face Central Baptist in conference action on Friday and Saturday.  First pitch of Friday's doubleheader is set for noon from Bear Stadium in Conway.
