Eagles Fall to Eutectics in High-Scoring Series Finale
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (3/21/26) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team fell in the final game of its three-game series against UHSP by the score of 12-9 on Saturday afternoon at Shell Field.
The Eutectics struck first with a run in the top of the first, but the Eagles responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame to take the early lead. Mari Thomas tied it with an RBI single, then Gavin Mink came around on an error, and Thomas scored the next play.
UHSP cut the lead to 3-2 with a run in the second, then exploded for five in the third to go ahead 7-3. WBU got a run back in the third, but UHSP scored twice in the fourth to extend its lead to 9-4.
A pair of runs came home for WBU in the bottom of the fourth, then Williams scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth to make it a one-run game at 10-9.
The Eutectics added insurance runs in the seventh and the ninth. WBU had chances to tie the game with two runners on base in each of the final three innings, but could not convert as UHSP avoided the sweep with the 12-9 win.
The loss drops Williams to 17-13 overall and 6-3 in conference play. The Eagles return to the diamond on Wednesday, March 25, with a non-conference midweek doubleheader against Maranatha Baptist. First pitch is set for noon from Shell Field on the campus of Williams Baptist University.
