WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (3/28/26) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team avoided a series sweep with a 10-6 win in game two of a doubleheader against Columbia at Shell Field on Saturday.
GAME ONE - Columbia 6, Williams 1
Columbia scored the game's first run in the top of the second on an RBI single for an early 1-0 lead.
After WBU failed to respond, the Cougars hung five runs on four hits in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 6-0.
Brady Swims tossed 4.0 shutout innings after getting the final out of the fourth to keep the CC lead at six.
Despite the strong relief appearance, WBU was unable to find an answer. Lawson Aaron followed up a lead-off double from Gavin Mink with an RBI single to score the Eagles' only run in the bottom of the ninth, but WBU was unable to mount the late comeback.
Ben Bledsoe (L, 3-4) took the loss. Brevin Carlisle also threw a scoreless 1.1 innings.
GAME TWO - Williams 10, Columbia 6
Columbia struck first in the series finale with five runs in the second inning to go ahead 5-0. The Cougars tacked on another run in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead at the halfway point.
The Eagles did not roll over after that. Cade Parks drove in the first two runs with a home run. After loading the bases, Skylar Morrison drew a walk to plate another and cut the lead to 6-3.
With one out, Mason Andrews slapped a three-run double to right center field to tie the game up at 6-6. After that, another run came home on a two-out error to give the Eagles a 7-6 lead.
Connor Brinkley (W, 4-0) shut the Cougars down on the mound after that, allowing just the one earned run while striking out six in 5.0 innings of work.
WBU added two more runs in the seventh on an RBI single from Will Riley and another error, then one more insurance run in the eighth when Lawson Aaron came home on a double steal.
After a single and a walk to start the top of the ninth, Lawson Aaron turned a clean double play at third base, and Brinkley struck out the last hitter to secure the win.
The win moves WBU to 20-15 overall and 7-5 in AMC play. Next, the Eagles travel to St. Louis, Mo. for a three-game set against Harris-Stowe on April 3-4. First pitch of game one on Friday is set for noon.
