Men's Soccer Earns Double OT Draw with Bellevue

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams Baptist men's soccer team opened the 2021 portion of their schedule with a double overtime 2-2 draw with the Bellevue (Neb.) Bruins.

The Eagles got on the board quickly when Gabriel Otero (SO/Vargem Grande do Sul, SP, Brazil) received a through ball and dribbled up the left hand side to beat the Bruins' keeper in the 3rd minute of the game.

The Bruins got back into the game after one of their attackers was taken down inside the box for a penalty kick, which the Bruins were able to convert. They then took the lead in 29th minute with a goal from the run of play up the right side of the field.

The Eagles then were able to tie up in the dying minutes of the first half after the Eagles were fouled and awarded a free kick not far outside the 18 yard box. Thayrone Cazeca (JR/Vitoria, Brazil) lined up over the ball and kicked a ball that curved into the net past the keeper.

That was all the scoring for the rest of the game, as it took the rest of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods and neither team was able to find the game winner.

The Eagles had seven shots in the game with six on goal.

Alejandro Perez (JR/Valencia, Spain) had three saves and allowed two goals.
