WBU Men’s Soccer Drops Season Opener to Midland

The Williams Baptist Soccer team lost its season opener 2-1 to Midland University in the MBU Invitational on Saturday.

The first half was a defensive battle for both sides, but the Warriors took the upperhand early in the second half with a goal in the 46th minute off the foot of Adan Boulaghman.

The Eagles answered in the 51st minute when Alfonso Madrigal tied the match with an unassisted strike and the contest remained that way until Boulaghmal struck again in the 84th minute with his second of the afternoon, in what proved to be the go-ahead mark.

The Eagles had 15 shots in the game, five of which were on goal.  Goalkeeper Rodrigo Pina recorded one save on 3 shots in all 90 minutes of play.

The Eagles will look to get back on track as they host Texas A&M Texarkana in their home opener at 3 pm on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

WBU is a private, Christian university in Walnut Ridge.
