The Williams Baptist University men's soccer team earned a 4-1 victory in its home opener over Texas A&M-Texarkana Tuesday afternoon at the WBU Soccer Field.
The Eagles did much of their damage in the first half, scoring three goals to put TAMUT on the defensive. Andre Akabane got things started in the 20th minute with a timely goal that was setup thanks to great passing from Hugo Gil and Jacobo Obradors.
Obradors enjoyed a strong afternoon on the offensive end of the field, as he also added goals in the 24th and 33rd minutes that gave Williams a 3-0 advantage going into the halftime break. His first goal was set up by a great ball from Axel Vilegas Domingues, while his second score was assisted by Kyeron Daws.
After the break Adrian Briceno added the final tally of the night for WBU as Gil picked up his second assist in the 56th minute.
Defensively the Eagles were sound all game and limited the opportunities TAMUT had to strike. Rodrigo Pina was strong in goal and made three saves, including a penalty kick in the 16th minute when the game was still scoreless.
WBU was efficient in its shot placement, landing nine of 12 attempts on target.
Next up for the Eagles is a trip to LSU-Alexandria on Saturday, Sept. 3. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
