OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (9/2/24) – The Williams Baptist University men's soccer team took its first draw of the season in a tough road matchup against No. 11 Mid-America Christian on Monday afternoon.
The match was a defensive battle all the way through, with both teams using outstanding defensive efforts to stay in the ball game.
Eagles forward Jacobo Obradors set the tone early, just missing a shot off the post only four minutes into the game. Obradors later put in a beautiful shot on goal that was saved by the MACU keeper.
The game went scoreless into the intermission, but not without both offenses having chances to take the lead.
WBU finally broke through for the first score of the game in the 81st minute when Adrian Briceno and Hugo Gil executed two perfect passes in the box to give Obradors a golden opportunity for the go-ahead goal.
MACU was able to find an equalizer just past the diving body of Rodrigo Pina in the 88th minute to salvage a 1-1 draw.
Rodrigo Pina picked up eight saves in 90 minutes in goal for the Eagles, picking up his first draw of the season.
Williams will move on to play its first home game of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 4 against Louisiana Christian. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m. from the WBU Soccer Field in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
