WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (10/29/24) – Powered by a late goal from Jacobo Obradors, the Williams Baptist men's soccer team took down No. 20 Columbia 1-0 in an American Midwest Conference matchup at the WBU Soccer Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The only score of the match came from reigning AMC Offensive Player of the week Jacobo Obradors in the 78th minute with an assist from Hugo Gil. Obradors' shot rang off the crossbar and fell in for his league-leading 17th goal on the year.
The Eagles started the game with a chance early with Matheus Farias breaking free on the opening kick and sending a shot high only 25 seconds into the match. WBU's next chance in the first half came off the boot of Hugo Gil with a shot on goal, but it was saved by the Columbia keeper to send the game into the break in a 0-0 deadlock.
Columbia opened the second half with two shots on goal saved by WBU goalkeeper Rodrigo Pina in the 58th minute to keep the Cougars off the scoreboard.
Columbia's Julio Gonzalez put up a potential game-tying shot in the 85th minute, but the attempt was quelled by Pina to clinch the Eagles second ranked win of the season.
Pina played all 90 minutes between the posts for Williams, making six saves for his 11th clean sheet of the year.
