Wrestling Pins Way to Victory at Lyon

Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The Williams Baptist University wrestling team beat Lyon College 37-9 on Tuesday evening. The Eagles won four decisions via fall, one major decision, one decision and one forfeit to earn their 37 points and the road American Midwest Conference victory. The match was wrestled in Batesville, Ark.

Maleek Canton pinned his opponent the quickest. He won by fall in the 285 lb. weight class, needing only 2:40 to assert his dominance. The next quickest win by fall was in the 149 lb. division. Nicholas Souder pinned his opponent in 4:22.

C.J. Cara won his match in 4:38. He received ten points after the pin and victory in 184 lb. weight class. Meanwhile, Kendric Gordon won by fall in 4:47, earning six points in the 197 lb. division. In the 141 lb. weight class, AJ Bindner received maximum points after a forfeit.

Earning a major decision was Tahnell Palmer with a 11-0 victory in the 133 lb. weight class. He earned four team points with the win. Meanwhile, Rhett Womack earned three points with a 14-12 decision victory in the 157 lb. division.

The victory improved the Eagles' dual record on the season to 6-9 overall and 4-1 in AMC play. Next up, WBU will battle for the AMC Championships on February 22. The tournament will be played in St. Louis, Mo., and will serve as the national qualifiers for wrestling. They start at 8 a.m. at Missouri Baptist University.
