Saavedra Leads the Way at Patriot Open

CORBIN, Ky. (11/3/25) – The Williams Baptist University wrestling team opened its 2025 season at the Pepsi Patriot Open hosted by Cumberlands on Saturday.

Caiden Saavedra led the way for WBU, going 6-2 in the 149 weight class to grab a fifth place finish, and Landon Holmes followed with a 3-2 record in the 141 bracket.  Tevin Minney also snagged a pair of victories in the 157 bracket.

Clay Crane, Ezekiel Gasca, James Opitz, Matthew Russell, and Tripp Price also all grabbed their first wins of the season in the event.

Williams placed 25th of 30 teams as a squad in the event.  Next, the Eagles will travel to Potaeu, Okla. for the Viking Open on Saturday, Nov. 8.
