WBU Lands Five on AMC All-Conference Softball Team

Williams Baptist University senior infielder Alyssa Cordell earned First-Team All-American Midwest Conference honors, while Kaydra Cole, Angel Gillette, Kennedy Johnson and Megan Weis were all named to the second-team the league office announced Monday night.

Cordell hit .426 this season with 39 RBIs and 23 runs scored. She collected 58 hits, 17 of which were doubles and three triples while drawing 18 walks. She struck out just eight times and hit two home runs and also stole two bases. 

Cole, a senior from Paragould, Ark., hit .362 with 39 RBIs and two home runs. She scored 24 runs, stole three bases, collected 11 doubles and drew 10 walks. 

Gillette, a senior pitcher from Spring Texas, threw 108 innings and recorded seven wins. She struck out 107 hitters and averaged 6.94 strikeouts per game. She tossed seven complete games on the year and garnered four shutouts. 

Johnson, a junior first baseman from Forney, Texas, collected 33 hits with 23 RBIs and one home with a .333 batting average on the year. She had nine doubles and 10 walks, and finished with a .455 slugging percentage. 

Weis, a junior outfielder from Republic, Mo., led the team with 28 stolen bases and had a .350 batting average. She scored 36 times, had 42 hits, drew 20 walks and had a .451 on-base percentage. 

In addition to the all-conference team, the AMC announced the players selected to its Champions of Character team, and representing the Eagles was freshman Hannah Stallings.
