Wolfe Powers WBU to Split With Comets

NEVADA, Mo. (3/29/25) – Kaylee Wolfe set a new single-game program record with three home runs to lead the Williams Baptist University softball team to a doubleheader split with defending American Midwest Conference champion Cottey by the final scores of 5-4 and 11-4.

Wolfe lit up the box score in game two as she went 4-for-5 with three homers and six RBI's in the big 11-4 win.

The Lady Eagles opened up scoring in the top of the first with a two-run single from Breann ThresherKaylee Wolfe added on with her first of three homers with a solo shot in the third to put WBU up 3-0.

Cottey's Grace Taylor evened the score in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run homer, but Wolfe quickly responded in the fifth with another solo homer to put Williams back on top 4-3.

After Cottey tied the game again with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, Kaylee Wolfe capped off her three homer day and put Williams on top for good with a grand slam in the sixth.

WBU added three more runs in the seventh to take the 11-4 win and secure the series split.

In game one, Cottey got out to an early lead after scoring twice in the first inning.  Breann Thresher responded in the third with a two-run double to tie the game, but Cottey jumped back to a 4-2 advantage after a two-run double of its own.

An RBI single from Makayla Snider in the bottom of the fifth extended the Comets lead to three runs.

The Eagles fought back in the seventh with an RBI single from Madyson Busselle and a sacrifice fly from Thresher, but ultimately fell short 5-4 in the twin bill's opener.

The split moves WBU to 19-10 overall on the season and 4-4 in AMC play.  The Lady Eagles will continue their roadstand on Tuesday, Apr. 1 in Batesville, Ark. with a single game against Lyon College.  First pitch against the Scots is set for 2 p.m.
