WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (4/12/25) – The Williams Baptist University softball team swept Hannibal-LaGrange on Senior Day at the WBU Softball Field by the final scores of 7-0 and 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.
After the conclusion of game two, the WBU softball program honored six seniors for their dedication to Williams Baptist University. Natalia Watkins, Rylee Boshell, Tori Kierbach, Bailey Crump, Hannah Stallings, and Emilee Knighton were all recognized for their contributions to WBU softball.
The Lady Eagles got on the board first in game one of the doubleheader with three runs in the bottom of the first. Rylee Boshell, Ashlyn Michael, and Hannah Stallings each singled to drive in a run.
WBU struck again in the third when Kaelyn Gooch hit a two-run infield single to extend the lead to 5-0, and Kaylee Wolfe drove in another with an RBI double and scored on an error on the same play.
Emberlin Caldwell and McKenna Bittle combined for seven scoreless innings and 10 strikeouts in the win. Caldwell picked up her 11th win of the season with eight strikeouts across five innings. Bittle tossed the final two with only one baserunner allowed.
HLGU jumped out to an early lead in game two with two runs in the first. The Trojans added on with a run in the third to go up 3-0.
After a slow offensive start, Natalia Watkins hit her second home run in as many days to get the Eagles on the board.
Kaylee Wolfe kicked off the sixth inning with a solo homer to cut the lead to two. After a double from Watkins, Madyson Busselle tied the game with an RBI double. Paige Thomas put the Eagles on top with an RBI single that scored Busselle.
The Trojans did not go down quietly in the seventh, tying the game at 4-4 with an RBI single from Megan Riggs. In the bottom of the inning with two outs, Watkins walked and Busselle doubled to set up a walk-off RBI single from Rylee Boshell to give WBU the Senior Day sweep.
The wins move Williams to 26-12 overall and 10-6 in conference play. The Lady Eagles will return to the field on Friday, Apr. 18 when the squad takes on Stephens at home. First pitch against the Stars is set for 2 p.m. from the WBU Softball Field.
