WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (2/27/26) – The Williams Baptist University softball team struck early in both games of a doubleheader to sweep Missouri Valley at the WBU Softball Field on Friday afternoon.
GAME ONE - Williams 8, Missouri Valley 2
WBU scored the game's first run on a Brooke Scott RBI single, then scored again moments later when Addison Foster struck for another RBI single. The Lady Eagles broke the inning open when Ivey Jo Perkins reached on an error in center field allowing two unearned runs to score. Olivia Huckabee capped the frame with an RBI single to make it 5-0 Williams.
In the second, Addison Foster delivered a big blow with a two-run homer for her second and third RBIs in the contest that put WBU ahead 7-0.
The Lady Eagles rode the early 7-0 advantage to the game one win. Missouri Valley struck back for two runs in the fourth, and Gooch added a score in the sixth to set the final at 8-2.
In the circle, Morgan Garner (W, 3-4) went the distance for WBU, allowing 2 runs on four hits with six strikeouts and one walk for the win. Garner did not allow a hit outside the fourth inning.
GAME TWO - Williams 7, Missouri Valley 2
The Eagles seized control of the ballgame immediately. After loading the bases in the bottom of the first, Taylor Youngblood launched a grand slam to right-center, scoring Kaylee Wolfe, Brooke Scott, and Addison Foster to give WBU an early 4-0 lead.
Williams added another run in the second on an RBI bunt single from Brooke Scott to extend the advantage to 5-0.
Missouri Valley answered with single-run innings in the third and fifth to cut the deficit to four. Ashlyn Michael drew an RBI walk in the bottom of the sixth to add an insurance run, and Emberlin Caldwell shut the door in the seventh to secure the doubleheader sweep.
Caldwell (W, 6-2) went the distance in the circle, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits* with 3 strikeouts across seven innings to earn the win.
The sweep moves WBU to 10-6 overall on the season. Next, the Lady Eagles will wrap up their eight-game homestand against (RV) Tennessee Southern on Saturday, Feb. 28. First pitch of game one against the Firehawks is set for noon from the WBU Softball Field.
