JACKSON, Tenn. (3/19/26) – The Williams Baptist University softball team swept Lane in a doubleheader at West Tennessee Sportsplex on Thursday afternoon.
GAME ONE - Williams 12, Lane 0
Kaylee Wolfe, Madyson Busselle, and Kaelyn Gooch each had three RBI to power WBU to a run-rule victory in game one of the doubleheader.
After a scoreless first, Gooch drove in the first two runs of the ballgame to put Williams on the board. Wolfe drove in another pair with an RBI single to cap off a four-run inning.
WBU scored another run in the third on an RBI double from Ashlyn Michael, then added four more on a bases-loaded hit by pitch to Brooke Scott and a bases-clearing double from Madyson Busselle to put the Lady Eagles ahead 9-0.
WBU tacked on three more runs in the fifth to widen the advantage to twelve.
Emberlin Caldwell (W, 8-3) fanned six Dragon hitters in 5.0 shutout frames in the circle for the Lady Eagles.
GAME TWO - Williams 4, Lane 2
Morgan Garner (W, 7-5) led the way for the Lady Eagles in the second game of the day after carrying a perfect game into the bottom of the seventh inning. Garner fanned four with just two hits allowed in the pitchers duel.
After a scoreless five innings, Madyson Busselle broke through with a two-run homer to break the tie in the top of the sixth.
Two more runs came home on an error in the top of the seventh to make it 4-0 and add some insurance for Williams.
Lane did not manage a baserunner in the ballgame until a bloop single into center field broke up the perfecto bid to lead off the seventh. Two batters later, a two-run homer cut the deficit to 4-2. Despite the setback, Garner induced a groundout for the final out to conclude the doubleheader sweep.
The wins move Williams to 16-8 overall on the season. Next, the Lady Eagles will begin American Midwest Conference action on Saturday, March 21 against Columbia. First pitch against the Cougars is set for 1 p.m. from the WBU Softball Field.
