Garner’s Shutout Leads Eagles to Split With Mustangs

CONWAY, Ark. (3/27/26) – Morgan Garner tossed a three-hit complete game shutout in game two to lead the Williams Baptist University softball team to a doubleheader split with Central Baptist on Saturday afternoon.

GAME ONE - Central Baptist 4, Williams 3

The Lady Eagles out-hit the Mustangs, but CBC used a four-run fifth to propel themselves to a win in game one.

After a scoreless first three innings, WBU struck first on a three-run homer from Taylor Youngblood in the top of the fourth to go ahead 3-0.

The Mustangs responded in the bottom of the fifth with four runs to take the lead.

The Lady Eagles threatened to respond with two runners on in the sixth, but CBC worked out of trouble to keep the lead intact, and Williams was unable to mount a comeback in the seventh.

Emberlin Caldwell (L, 8-4) tossed five innings with nine strikeouts.  Brianna McPike threw a scoreless inning to close out the game.

GAME TWO - Williams 2, Central Baptist 0

Morgan Garner (W, 7-4) twirled a three-hit complete game shutout to lead the Lady Eagles to a win in game two of the doubleheader.  Garner allowed just three hits across 7.0 innings with no walks and six strikeouts to earn her seventh win of the season.

After threatening with runners on in the first and second inning, the Lady Eagles scored the first run of the game when Youngblood drew a bases-loaded walk.  Breann Thresher followed with a single up the middle to bring home another run and put WBU ahead 2-0.

Garner cruised after that, retiring the final 14 batters in order to secure the doubleheader split, and snap a five-game win streak in the series against CBC.

The win moves WBU to 19-9 overall and 3-1 in AMC play.  Williams will return to action on Saturday, March 28 on the road against Mission.  First pitch against the Patriots is set for noon from Springfield, Mo.
