WBU Sweeps Bethel in Road Doubleheader

MCKENZIE, Tenn. (4/1/26) – The Williams Baptist University softball team started the month of April with a pair of wins over Bethel at Lady Wildcat Park on Wednesday afternoon.

GAME ONE - Williams 5, Bethel 2

Taylor Youngblood (2-4, 2 2B, RBI) and Brooke Scott (2-4, R, RBI) led the way at the plate, each with a pair of hits.  Ashlyn Michael (1-4, 2B, 2 RBI) brought home two runs.

The Lady Eagles struck early with four runs in the top of the first inning.  Kaylee Wolfe, Brooke Scott, and Madyson Busselle led off the game with three straight singles before Addison Foster drove in a run on a groundout.

Ashlyn Michael followed with a two-run double, and Taylor Youngblood doubled right after that to put WBU ahead 4-0 in the early going.

Scott gave Williams another run with an RBI single in the second to extend the lead to 5-0 to cap off scoring for the Lady Eagles.

Bethel got two runs in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-2, but the Eagles stayed in front to earn the win.

Emberlin Caldwell (W, 12-4) went 7.0 innings with just two runs allowed alongside four strikeouts in the circle.

GAME TWO - Williams 4, Bethel 1

Addison Foster (2-4, HR, RBI) and Ashlyn Michael (1-2, 2B, 2 RBI) stayed hot at the plate to lead WBU to the sweep.

After a scoreless first two innings, Bethel got on the board first with a solo home run in the bottom of the third.

WBU responded in the next inning when Ashlyn Michael smacked her second two-run double of the day to put the Lady Eagles in front for good in the top of the fourth.

Williams added on two more insurance runs at the top of the sixth behind Addison Foster's eighth home run of the year and a bases-loaded walk from IveyJo Perkins to make it 4-1.

Morgan Garner (W, 10-6) allowed just one hit in the final four innings of the game in the circle.  Garner struck out five and scattered four hits across 7.0 innings of one-run ball.

The wins move Williams to 24-10 overall on the season.  The Lady Eagles return home on Tuesday, April 7, to take on Freed-Hardeman.  First pitch against the Lions is set for 2 p.m. from the WBU Softball Field.
