Late Rallies Power Lady Eagles to Sweep of Lions
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (4/7/26) – The Williams Baptist University softball team used two late rallies to sweep (RV) Freed-Hardeman in a doubleheader on Tuesday at the WBU Softball Field.
GAME ONE - Williams 4, Freed-Hardeman 2
Kaylee Wolfe (3-4, RBI, HR) and Taylor Youngblood (1-3, 2 RBI, HR) led the Eagles' offense in the game one win.
WBU got on the board in the first inning with an RBI double from Madyson Busselle. In the third, Kaylee Wolfe extended the lead with a solo homer to put Williams ahead 2-0.
FHU got on the board with a solo homer in the fourth, then tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single in the fifth.
With the game tied at 2-2, Taylor Youngblood launched a two-run homer to left field to put Williams back in front by a pair. FHU put their lead-off hitter on with a single in the top of the seventh, but Youngblood turned the double play to end the threat and seal the win.
Emberlin Caldwell (W, 13-4) went the distance to earn the win with five strikeouts.
GAME TWO - Williams 9, Freed-Hardeman 8
Madyson Busselle (2-2, 2 RBI, 2B) and Addison Foster (2-4, 4 RBI, 2B, HR) posted great games in the back half of the doubleheader to lead WBU to the sweep.
FHU got on the board first with three runs in the top of the second. WBU got a run back on a solo homer from Ashlyn Michael, but FHU matched with a homer of its own to go up 4-1.
Addison Foster cut the lead to one with a two-run double in the third that brought home Busselle and Wolfe.
The Lions scored single runs in the fifth and the sixth to go up 6-3 into the late innings.
Down a trio of runs, Taylor Youngblood led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo shot to cut the lead to two. With two on and two out, Brooke Scott singled down the right field line to cut the deficit to 6-5.
Down a run with two outs, Madyson Busselle blooped a two-run single down the right field line to bring in the tying and go-ahead runs and give WBU its first lead of the game. Addison Foster added the exclamation point with a two-run homer to cap off the six-run rally and put WBU ahead 9-6.
FHU scored two to cut the lead to one in the top of the seventh, but Emberlin Caldwell (Sv, 1) secured the comeback win for the Lady Eagles.
Morgan Garner (W, 11-6) earned the win in the circle for WBU.
The wins move WBU to 26-10 overall. The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Friday, April 10, with a doubleheader against Harris-Stowe. First pitch against the Hornets is set for 1 p.m. from the WBU Softball Field.
