Lady Eagles Sweep UHSP on Senior Day
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (4/11/26) – The Williams Baptist University softball team swept UHSP in a Senior Day doubleheader at the WBU Softball Field on Saturday afternoon.
After the conclusion of the doubleheader, WBU honored nine seniors that have dedicated their time and effort to Williams Softball over the past few seasons. Kaelyn Gooch, Taylor Hooten, Madyson Busselle, Brooke Scott, McKenna Bittle, Paige Thomas, Kaylee Wolfe, Breann Thresher, and Morgan Garner were all recognized during Senior Day festivities.
GAME ONE - Williams 11, UHSP 3 (5 Innings)
Brooke Scott, Addison Foster, Ashlyn Michael, Taylor Youngblood, and Breann Thresher each posted multiple RBI's in game one of the twinbill.
Williams drew first blood on a two-run homer from Addison Foster in the bottom of the first. Kaelyn Gooch added another run on an RBI double in the second to put Williams ahead 3-0.
UHSP struck back to tie the game with a three-run third, but the Lady Eagles regained the lead on an RBI single from Ashlyn Michael in the bottom of the frame.
Williams ended the game in the fifth with a six-run outburst that secured the victory. Ashlyn Michael, Breann Thresher, and Brooke Scott each swung for RBI doubles, and Taylor Youngblood tossed in a two-run single in support. The Eagles did not record an out in the bottom of the fifth inning en route to the run-rule win.
Emberlin Caldwell (W, 15-7) won her AMC-leading 15th game with 5.0 innings with just three runs allowed.
GAME TWO - Williams 11, UHSP 4
Brooke Scott (4-4, 5 RBI, 2B, 3B) was a homer away from the cycle, while Madyson Busselle (3-4, 4 RBI, 3 2B, SB) tied the WBU record for doubles in a game to lead the way at the plate in game two.
WBU struck first in the bottom of the first with a two-run double off the bat of Busselle, then Michael added an RBI single to put Williams ahead 3-0.
An RBI single from Scott and another RBI double from Busselle added two in the third to give the Lady Eagles a 5-0 early lead.
The Eutectics showed life in the fourth with an RBI single and a three-run homer to cut the lead to one run, but the Lady Eagles swung back with four runs of their own highlighted by a two-run triple from Scott to get back in front 9-4.
Scott swung for a two-run double in the fifth to extend the lead to 11-4 as WBU cruised to the doubleheader sweep.
Morgan Garner (W, 13-6) earned the win after throwing 6.2 innings with four strikeouts. Brianna McPike retired the only batter she faced.
The wins move Williams 30-10 overall and 9-1 in conference play. The Lady Eagles have won eight games in a row and sit in first place in the AMC.
WBU will be back in action on Monday, April 13 on the road against Rhodes College. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:30 p.m. from Memphis, Tenn.
