Alvarado Outshines Stars in Conference-Opener

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (10/4/25) – A late score from Yajaira Alvarado lifted the Williams Baptist University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Stephens in its' American Midwest Conference opener.

Alvarado scored both goals for the Lady Eagles bringing her season-total to a nation-leading 19 scores.

As a team, WBU out-shot Stephens 25-11 with 14 shots on goal.  Both teams committed six fouls.

After a scoreless half with both teams trading scoring opportunities, Williams finally broke through with under two minutes left on an unassisted score from Yajaira Alvarado to send the Eagles into the locker room up 1-0 at halftime.

Another scoreless 35 minutes in the second half was finally broken up when Stephen's Eastin Colyer found the equalizer in the 83rd minute.  

Staring down WBU's first draw of the season, Lucia Alvarez connected with Alvarado on a long pass and the Jonesboro, Ark. native finished the job to put the Eagles back on top in the 86th minute.

Naveah Larkins made five saves between the posts in 90 minutes for Williams in the win.

The Lady Eagles collect their first three points of AMC play to tie for the top of the table through one match.  Williams moves to 9-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.

Next, the Lady Eagles return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 11 in Hannibal, Mo. against Hannibal-LaGrange.  Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. from Blackwell Field.
