Lady Eagles Stumble Against Harris-Stowe

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams volleyball team lost in straight sets to the Harris-Stowe State Hornets on Friday night.

The first set started off back-and-forth until the Hornets built up an 12-9 lead and then went on a 5-0 run to extend their lead out to 17-9. The Lady Eagles battled back and made it 22-15 when Morgan Feltrop got the kill on the pass from Laykin Harkcom. The Lady Eagles then scored four straight to make it 22-18, but the Hornets eventually won the set 25-19. 

The second set started off better for the Lady Eagles as they built themselve a 6-4 lead before the Hornets went on a run that gave them a 12-7 lead. Back-to-back kills from Marissa Spakes was able to stop the Hornets run, but the Hornets were able to build their lead back out to 18-14. A service error by the Hornets and kills from Chloe Hardaway and Spakes brought the Lady Eagles back to within one point, but that was the closest they would be for the rest of the set. Harris-Stowe went on to win 25-21.

The third set started out with both sides swapping points until it was tied 8-8. Then the Hornets went on a 9-0 run. The Lady Eagles responded with a 9-1 run of their own to cut the Hornet's lead down to one point. However, that wouldn't be enough for the Lady Eagles as the Hornets eventually won the set 25-21.

Molly Henson led the team with seven kills. Harkcom led the team with 12 assists. Faith Raymon finished with 10 digs to lead the squad.

The Lady Eagles travel to Paragould, Ark. on Tuesday, Oct. 11 for a matchup against Crowley's Ridge College. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
