Lady Eagles Sweep Mustangs

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams volleyball team defeated the Central Baptist College Mustangs in straight sets on Thursday night for their first win in AMC play this season.

The Lady Eagles started the first set hot, building out a 12-5 lead, before the Mustangs scored three in a row to bring the score a little bit closer. However, the Lady Eagles kept control of the set and rattled of three in a row for themselves to extend their lead to 17-10. CBC would keep battling and brought themselves within three points and a 22-19, but then two attack errors by the Mustangs and a kill by Molly Henson gave the Lady Eagles a 25-20 victory in the set one. 

Williams kept their hot streak going in the second set when they opened up to a 9-4 lead. From there, the teams would battle until the Mustangs found a way to tie it up at 23-23. Both teams swapped points and pushed the set out to a 29-29 tie and then two attack errors by the Mustangs gave the Lady Eagles a 31-29 victory in the second set. 

The third set was a real battle for the Lady Eagles and they found themselves down 15-12, but they battled back to tie it up at 16-16. The teams continued to swap points until the Lady Eagles led 23-22. Williams finished out the set with a kill from Henson and a service ace by Faith Raymond to give them a 25-22 victory in the set and the match. 

Henson led the team with 10 kills on the night. Sydney Burgin had 15 assists in the game, while Laykin Harkcom had 11. Faith Raymond had 16 digs in match and Hope Raymond had 10.

The Lady Eagles travel to Texas on Tuesday, Oct. 25 for a matchup against Jarvis Christian. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
