WBU Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Matchup on Road

The Williams Baptist University volleyball team lost to Centenary College (LA.) 25-16, 25-22, 25-8 in a non-conference matchup on Saturday night.

Hope Raymond led WBU with eight kills and 14 digs on the afternoon, while Sophie Allred contributed 13 assists. 

The Lady Eagles fell behind 15-2 early in the first set and struggled to move the Ladies off serve. Centenary went on a 7-0 run to build its advantage, but WBU refused to back down and went on a 5-0 run of its own later in the set to close the gap to 22-14. Centenary was able to get back on service and closed out the first set by forcing the Lady Eagles into attacking errors to carry the early momentum.

In the second set was tightly contested with both teams struggling to find a groove on the defensive side. Tinleigh Ruhman helped Williams tie the set at 6-6 early on with back-to-back aces. After trading points through the middle part of the set, Centenary built a 17-11 advantage, but the Lady Eagles roared back with Hope Raymond on serve and forced the Ladies into key attacking errors to tie the set at 17-17.

WBU continued to ride the momentum and pushed forward to take a 21-19 lead, but Centenary came back with four straight points to go up 23-21. Williams got a point back to close within one, but the Ladies closed out the set with a pair of attacking errors from WBU to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set was back and forth in the early part with both teams trading the lead and points until Centenary went on a 15-0 to close out the set and the match.

Williams returns to the courts Monday, Oct. 16 at Williams Woods. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
