Eagles Down Trojans in HLGU Tri-Match

HANNIBAL, Mo. (10/18/25) – The Williams Baptist University volleyball team defeated Hannibal-LaGrange in its second match of a tri-match on Saturday afternoon by the final score of 3-1 (25-11, 17-25, 25-14, 25-20).

Tinleigh Ruhman led the Lady Eagles offensive in the win with 10 kills on a .360 hit percentage.  Hope Raymond and Halie Sutton followed with seven kills each.  On the back row, Raymond led the way with 24 digs in the contest, followed by her sister, Faith Raymond, at 19.  Amber Kahler posted 16 assists in the win, and Desirae Walker followed with 16.

As a team, WBU put up 39 kills, 32 assists, and 92 digs against the Trojans.  The Lady Eagles held HLGU to a -.167 clip on the day.

WBU began the first set with a 6-0 swing to get ahead 11-4.  The Lady Eagles rode that momentum to take the win in the first set.

Hannibal-LaGrange fought back in the second set.  A kill from Alyssa Russel brought the Eagles within three at 19-16, but WBU was unable to close the gap as Hannibal won the set to even the match.

WBU finished the third set on a 10-2 run to get back in front in the set count.  In the fourth, Williams was down 12-7 in the early going.  HLGU rode the momentum to a 19-15 lead late in the frame, but the Lady Eagles stormed back by taking 10 of the final 11 points to win the set and the match.

In WBU's first match of the day, the Lady Eagles fell to Columbia by the final score of 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-12).

Ruhman led the team with 11 kills on a .250 hitting percentage, while Faith Raymond led the back row with 13 digs.

The Lady Eagles had a chance late in the first set after a Ruhman kill tied the score at 22-22, but Columbia took three of the final four points to steal the set away.

WBU posted a .250 hit percentage with nine kills in the first frame, while holding Columbia to just .172 in the opener.

The Cougars took control of the match in the second and third frames.  Columbia used a 6-1 swing in the second set to take a 20-12 lead and ride the momentum to a set win, and rattled off 11 in a row to break away to a 23-10 lead in the third frame.

The split puts WBU at 2-23 overall and 1-13 in conference play.  The Lady Eagles return to the court on the road against Lyon on Tuesday, Oct. 21.  The match is set for a 6:30 p.m. start from inside Becknell Gymnasium in Batesville, Ark.
