Eagles Split Weekend Series With Trojans
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams Baptist baseball team split the four game weekend series, winning the second and fourth games and dropping the first and third ones. Following the weekend the team is 11-17 overall and 7-9 in conference play.
The Eagles dropped game one 10-5. Brennan White (SR/Fredericktown, MO) broke the career strikeout record with his strikeout of the first batter he faced. That gave him 150 strikeouts for his career. With that out, he also completed his 200th inning pitch, another school record. In the game, Andrew Radcliff (JR/Corning, Ark.) went 2-3 to lead the team, while Dezmond Cardova notched 2 RBI and Nick Allred (SO/Portageville, Mo.) and Sam Philley (SO/Oak Grove, LA) got one. White pitched 5.0 innings in the game and gave up nine runs off 14 hits, walked two and struck out five. Eric Tolar (SO/Jonesboro, La.) pitched 2.0 innings of relief and gave up one run off one hit.
The Eagles rallied and won game two 11-9. The Eagles played the first five innings on Friday, but the game was suspended in the top of sixth due to inclement weather. Brody Ninemire (SR/Viola, AR) led the team at the plate going 2-3 with three RBIs, while Palmer Campbell (SO/New Madrid, MO) got two and Radcliff got one. Brady Sterns (FR/Paragould, AR) pitched 5.0 innings and gave up four runs off five hits, walked one and struck out five. Garrison Keene (JR/New Madrid, Mo.) pitched 3.2 innings of relief and gave up five runs off six hits and struck out three. Chase Hutson (JR/Paragould, Ark.) pitched 0.1 inning of relief.
The Eagles dropped game three 4-3 after giving up two runs in the sixth. Trent Pobst (SR/Scott City, MO) went 2-2 at the plate with 3 stolen bases. Those stole bases gave him the single-season record for stolen bases. Ninemire had two RBIs and Philley had one. Kender Carroll (SO/Bentonville, AR) pitched 6.0 innings and gave up four runs off three hits, walked one and struck out 11. Chase Hutson pitched 1.0 inning of relief, walked two and struck out one.
The Eagles won the fourth game in an offensive showcase 18-11. Cordova and Campbell hit two homeruns each, while Ninemire hit one. Cordova led the team with five RBIs, Campbell had four RBIs, Jacob Brown (SR/Pinson, AL) had three RBIs, Ninemire and Trent Pobst each had two. Hunter Taylor (SO/Wynne, Ark.) pitched 4.1 innings and gave up seven runs off 11 hits, walked one and struck out three. Heath Taylor (JR/Wynne, Ark.) pitched 1.2 innings of relief and gave up two runs off four hits, walked one and struck out two. Blake Simmons (FR/Charleston, MO) pitched 3.0 innings of relief and gave up two runs off four hits, walked one and struck out four.
