Eagles Fall to Columbia at Home, 98-75

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (1/30/25) – The Williams Baptist University men's basketball team lost to Columbia 98-75 inside the Southerland-Mabee Center on Thursday night.

DJ Townsend led the scoring charge for Williams with 18 points on 7-for-12 from the field.  Cooper Rabjohn followed up with 15 points on five three-pointers.  Townsend led the squad on the glass with six rebounds.

As a team, WBU went 30-for-69 (43.5 percent) from the field with 10 three-pointers.  Columbia won the rebound battle 48-27.  The Cougars shot 51.5 percent from the field with 12 triples, and took 20 trips to the charity stripe, knocking down 16 free throws.

Columbia used a 15-4 run early in the first half to go up 25-15.  WBU prevented the Cougars from extending the advantage much farther in the stanza, responding to every bucket to keep the deficit at 53-42 at halftime.

A DJ Townsend jumper cut the Cougar lead to six with 13 minutes left in the second half, but WBU did not come any closer.  Columbia finally broke away with a 17-3 run with under 10 minutes to go to secure the win.

The loss drops Williams to 4-14 overall and 1-11 in American Midwest Conference play.  The Eagles will return to the floor on Thursday, Feb. 6 to take on Crowley's Ridge.  Tip-off against the Pioneers is set for 7:30 p.m. inside the Carter Activities Center in Paragould, Ark.
