Lady Eagles Start Season With Loss to TAMUT

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams women's basketball season opened up the 2022-23 campaign with a 86-55 loss to the Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles on Thursday night.

The first quarter was an even affair between the two teams that ended tied at 14. It remained neck and neck as Williams led 17-16, until TAMUT went on a seven point run to lead 23-17. Tristain Richards hit a three-pointer with 6:30 left in the second quarter to cut the lead in half. Williams then goes on a run of their own to lead 26-25. TAMUT ended the half on another seven point lead to go into halftime leading 32-26. 

TAMUT continued their hot shooting into the second half as they out-scored Williams 27-13 in the third quarter and 27-16 in the fourth quarter. 

Turnovers did no favor to the Lady Eagles as they committed 33 in the game. They shot 31.5% from the field (17-54), 18.8% from the three-point line (3-16), and 66.7% from the free-throw line (18-27). TAMUT outrebounded the Lady Eagles 39-34. 

Kaylee Clark led all scorers with 22 points. Monica Horne led the team on the glass with 15 boards, six offensive and nine defensive.
