Lady Eagles Outlast Pioneers For First Win of Season
PARAGOULD, Ark. - The Williams women's basketball team defeated the Crowley's Ridge College Pioneers 84-82 on Thursday night thanks to 20+ point games from Kaylee Clark and Tristan Richards and a double-double from Monica Horne.
The Lady Eagles took the early lead and built it up to a 20-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. They maintained their lead halfway through the quarter as they led 30-20, but then the Pioneers went on a run and were able to tie the game at 31 in the dying seconds of the half.
It was a back-and-forth effort in the third quarter, with neither side taking more than a four point lead over the other. That is until the last minute and a half of the quarter when the Lady Eagles went on a mini-run to lead 60-55 after three.
The fourth quarter was very similar to the third in that each team traded baskets and it remained close. The Pioneers were able to cut it a one-point game with 36 seconds remaining. Richards was fouled and converted both of her free-throws to make it an 83-80 Williams lead. The Pioneers quickly got a bucket to bring it back to a one point game, but they fouled Reesa Hampton to stop the clock. She hit the first and missed the second, but Clark was able to snag the rebound to end the game.
The Lady Eagles shot 42.9% from the field (30-70), 36.4% from the three-point line (4-11), and 60.6% from the free-throw line (20-33).
Clark led the team in scoring with 22 points, while Richards contributed 20. Horne had her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
