Lady Eagles Picked Third in AMC Preseason Poll
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (10/24/24) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team was picked to finish third in the American Midwest Conference preseason coach's poll on Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Eagles accumulated 95 points in the poll with two first-place votes, trailing last season's AMC tournament champion Columbia in first and Stephens in second.
WBU finished last season with a 24-7 overall record and a 15-3 mark in AMC play. The squad made it to the AMC Tournament championship game and made its first appearance in the NAIA National Tournament in program history as a nine seed.
Williams returns all five starters from last season, including three AMC All-Conference selections in Kaylee Clark, Carmen Taylor, and Charmen Taylor. The team also returns AMC All-Defensive team selection Taylor Hooten, and All-Freshman team selection Sara Crowe.
Head Coach John Mayberry also added some depth to the program in the offseason, picking up Southwest Tennessee Community College transfer Cortazya Flowers, as well as Delta State transfer Chelsea Hamilton. Flowers averaged 11 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game last season at STCC, while Hamilton averaged 6.6 points off the bench for Delta State.
The Lady Eagles will open the season at home against Langston on Monday, Oct. 28. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. in the Southerland-Mabee Center on the campus of Williams Baptist University.
