Lady Eagles Dominate Hendrix for Homecoming Win
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (11/9/24) – The Williams Baptist women's basketball team took down Hendrix College 99-58 for a Homecoming victory inside the Southerland-Mabee Center on Saturday afternoon.
During halftime, WBU women's basketball retired number 33 in honor of long-time Lady Eagles head coach Carol Halford's 33 years of continued service to the university.
Taylyn Davis led all scorers in the contest with 20 points off the bench for the Eagles on 7-for-12 from the field and 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Kaylee Isaacs followed with 17, Charmen Taylor poured in 13, and Carmen Taylor and Sara Crowe finished in the double digits with 12. Taylor Hooten led the team with 10 assists on the day.
As a team, WBU shot 50 percent from the field on 41-for-82 and 41.9 percent from three on 13-for-31 shooting. The Eagles out-rebounded the Warriors 40-35 and forced 30 turnovers. 51 of WBU's points came off the bench. Williams never trailed in the contest.
The Eagles started the game on a 7-0 run. After Hendrix cut the lead to two, the Eagles distanced themselves again with a 14-3 run to take a 28-13 lead before the end of the first quarter.
WBU opened the second quarter on a 17-2 run powered by six points from Carmen Taylor that gave the Eagles a 45-15 lead. Williams carried the momentum into halftime with a 55-24 lead.
Hendrix came out of the locker room hot, shooting 61.5 percent from the field in the third quarter. The Warriors outscored the Eagles 22-20 in the third powered by eight points from Megan Gray.
WBU opened the fourth with a 10-2 run to push its lead to 38. Zahria Baker and Chelsea Hamilton each hit a three-pointer in the final minute to set the final on Homecoming at 99-58.
The win moves the Lady Eagles to 2-1 on the season. Next, WBU will travel to Jackson, Tenn. for an exhibition matchup against Union. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15.
