WBU Races Past Owls 100-67
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (11/23/24) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team surpassed the century mark for the second straight game as the Eagles defeated American Midwest Conference foe William Woods 100-67 inside the Southerland-Mabee Center on Saturday afternoon.
Carmen Taylor led all scorers in the ballgame with 22 points on 8-for-17 from the field including 4-for-7 from three-point range. Taylor finished one rebound and two assists shy of a triple-double.
As a team, WBU shot 50.0 percent from the field on 40-for-80 and 47.6 percent from beyond the arc. The Eagles won the rebound battle 42-35 and forced 29 Owls turnovers.
The first quarter featured five lead changes as WBU shot only 38.1 percent from the field. A Nijah Moore jumper gave the Lady Eagles a 17-16 lead, and Chelsea Hamilton added on with a layup to give the Eagles a 19-16 lead at the quarter break.
Williams kicked off the second quarter on a 14-2 run capped off by a Monica Horne layup to take a 34-18 lead with five minutes left in the first half. WBU flipped the script of the first quarter, shooting a blistering 61.1 percent from the field for 30 points to take a 49-30 lead at halftime.
The Eagles stayed hot out of halftime, shooting 54.5 percent in the third quarter to take a 78-46 lead at the end of the third. A Hamilton three-pointer put Williams across the century mark for the second straight game to set the final at 100-67.
WBU moves to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in AMC play on the year. Williams returns to the court on Monday, Nov. 25 against Evangel. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Springfield, Mo.
