Eagles Win 11th Straight, Move Into First Place Tie in AMC
FULTON, Mo. (1/25/25) – A scorching hot first half offensive performance drove the Williams Baptist University women's basketball team to an 88-70 win over William Woods for its eleventh straight victory and into a tie for first place in the American Midwest Conference standings on Saturday afternoon inside Anderson Arena.
Carmen Taylor led the way for the Lady Eagles with 27 points on a 12-for-20 clip from the field. Her sister Charmen Taylor followed up with 18 on 9-for-12 from the field.
Sara Crowe posted a season-high of 16 points on an almost perfect 8-for-9 from the field, and Kaylee Isaacs posted another double-double with 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds on the day.
As a team, Williams shot a red-hot 50.6 percent (39-for-77) from the field while holding WWU to 36.2 percent shooting from the floor. The Lady Eagles won the rebound battle 46-38, and forced 22 Owl turnovers that turned into 29 points. WBU never trailed in the contest.
Williams came out swinging in the first quarter led by 16 points from Carmen Taylor. After conceding five unanswered Owl points to tie the game at seven, WBU out-scored the Owls 23-7 to take a 30-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. As a team, Williams shot a scorching 58.3 percent from the field in the first quarter.
The Lady Eagles continued to build on the advantage in the second quarter, kicking off the stanza with an 11-2 run to take a 41-16 lead. The Owls would fail to mount a comeback in the second half as the Eagles ran away with their 11th straight victory.
Williams 11th straight win sets a new high under head coach John Mayberry and is the longest since at least the 2005-06 season. The Eagles are now in possession of the longest active winning streak in the AMC.
WBU is now tied for first place with Columbia (18-1, 12-1 AMC) after the Cougars fell 75-70 to Mission in Columbia on Saturday. The two teams will battle it out for sole possession of first place on Thursday, Jan. 30 inside the Southerland-Mabee Center with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
