Williams Survives UHSP For 15th Straight Win

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (2/8/25) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team extended its program-best winning streak to fifteen games after taking down the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy 90-82 inside the UHSP Gymnasium on Saturday.

Carmen Taylor led the way for WBU with 24 points on 9-for-22 shooting.  Her sister Charmen Taylor put up 20 points on 7-for-15 shooting.  Monica Horne posted a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, and Sara Crowe added 13 off the bench on 6-for-10 from the floor.

WBU shot 35-for-79 (44.3 percent) from the floor in the contest.  The Lady Eagles won the rebound battle 43-38 and converted 15 Eutectic turnovers into 15 points.  Williams also scored 16 second chance points.

Williams started the game off on a 12-0 run capped off by a Carmen Taylor jumper.  The Lady Eagles took their largest lead of the game after a Taylor triple made it 17-3.  UHSP cut the lead to nine before the end of the first quarter as WBU went into the quarter break up 27-18.

UHSP clawed back into the game in the second quarter, out-scoring the Eagles 13-5 in the first four minutes to cut the lead to one.  Two three-pointers from Montasia Mcallister put the Eutectics on top 35-34 with five minutes to play.

After UHSP extended its lead to five with a Karsyn Morgan layup, Charmen Taylor drained a three at the buzzer to send the Eagles down 45-43 at the half.

WBU and UHSP traded buckets for the entire third quarter, with neither team able to gain a definitive advantage.  The period featured three ties and three lead changes before Charmen Taylor put Williams up 65-63 before the quarter break.

Charmen Taylor put WBU up six with a jumper at three and a half minutes to play in the fourth quarter.  UHSP cut the lead back to four with 18 seconds left, but Charmen Taylor and Taylor Hooten converted on both sets of free throws to push the lead to eight and secure the team's 15th consecutive victory.

The win moves WBU to 20-3 on the season and 16-1 in conference play.  The 2024-25 season is the second consecutive 20+ win season for head coach John Mayberry.  This marks the first time the Lady Eagles have won 20 or more games in back-to-back seasons since the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons under Carol Halford.

The Lady Eagles return home on Tuesday, Feb. 11 for a conference bout with Mission.  Tip-off against the Patriots is set for 5:30 p.m. inside the Southerland-Mabee Center.
