Lady Eagles Roll Mustangs in AMC Quarterfinals
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (2/28/25) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team took down Central Baptist 117-58 in the quarterfinal round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament presented by TandemHR inside the Southerland-Mabee Center on Friday night.
117 points is the second most scored by a team in a game in an American Midwest Conference Tournament game.
Kaylee Isaacs and Carmen Taylor led the way with 22 points each, while Taylyn Davis finished with 19 points off the bench. Taylor Hooten also added 12 points and nine assists. Charmen Taylor led the squad on the boards with seven rebounds.
As a team, WBU went 40-for-78 (54.1 percent) from the field and 12-for-28 (42.9 percent) from three-point range. The Lady Eagles converted 29 Mustang turnovers into 45 points, and scored 48 points in the paint. WBU lost the rebound battle 45-43. Williams never trailed in the contest.
WBU took a 27-21 lead at the end of the first, then began the second quarter on a 10-4 run to go up 37-25. In the last five minutes, Williams out-scored CBC 15-2 to take a 61-31 lead at halftime.
The Lady Eagles coasted to the win in the second half. A Taylyn Davis triple pushed WBU over the century mark with eight minutes to play in the fourth quarter. WBU won the fourth quarter 23-9 to take the quarterfinal victory.
WBU moves to 26-3 overall on the year. 26 wins is a new program record for wins in a season for Williams, topping the previous mark of 25 set in the 1983-84 campaign.
Williams will move on to face Stephens in the AMC Tournament semifinals on Saturday, Mar. 1. Tip-off against the Stars is set for 3:30 p.m.
